Thiru R.R. Anandan, a progressive farmer from Thiruvenkadu village in the Sirkazhi taluk of Mayiladuthurai district, owns a 5-acre farmland. Recognizing the importance of sustainable farming practices, he embarked on a tree-based agriculture journey by planting valuable tree species along the borders of his land. To implement this transformation effectively, he sought the guidance of the district coordinator associated with Cauvery Calling, a movement focused on restoring the Cauvery River and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Expert Guidance and Tree Selection

The district coordinator of Cauvery Calling played a crucial role in advising Thiru R.R. Anandan regarding tree selection based on soil and water testing. After thorough analysis, they finalized a diverse mix of tree species suitable for his land, including Mahogany, Malabar Kino, Rosewood, and Sandalwood.

Plantation Efforts and Results

With a vision to create a green buffer around his farm, Thiru R.R. Anandan took diligent efforts to plant more than 300 trees along the borders of his 5-acre land. Regular Monitoring and Support

The continuous support from the district coordinator was pivotal in ensuring the proper maintenance and growth of the planted trees. Every three months, the coordinator visited Thiru R.R. Anandan's farm, providing valuable suggestions on maintenance practices, insect protection, and weed control.
