At Isha Vidhya, art is woven into learning from the earliest years — not as a competition, but as a joyful celebration of imagination. Students explore color, texture, and form through hands-on creative experiences that build fine motor skills, self-expression, and confidence. From experimenting with materials to discovering new techniques, every art lesson nurtures curiosity and a deeper connection to the world around them.

Colors and other art materials are introduced to Isha Vidhya students from LKG onwards to stimulate their creativity and nurture their overall development. Art is a celebration of their uninhibited imagination and never a contest. Catch glimpses of their artistry in this blog.

Fingerprinting Pineapples
The fingerprinting art lesson for Class 1 students engages them in a creative, delightful educational activity while developing their fine motor skills and strengthening finger muscles for writing. After drawing an ellipse, students experiment by dabbing primary colours - red, yellow, and blue to create unique colour schemes and paint distinctive pineapples with abandon.

Sgraffito Painting
Class 2 students eagerly experimented with various colors in Sgraffito, a subtractive Italian method, meaning ‘to scratch out’. They filled a paper with bright crayon colors, overlaid it with black paint, and then used ice cream sticks to scratch out a design. The unexpected, colorful outcome enhanced their color sense even as they learned a new art form.

Beach Collage
The freedom that a seashore exudes was brought into the art class, offering Class 5 students the opportunity to create their version of a beach with unconventional materials. Using tempera paint, sand, leaves, twigs, flour, spices, and gilded paper allowed the students to explore diverse textures and colors to design unique collages.

Expressive Faces
Replicating facial expressions while referring to sample sketches gave ample impetus for Class 4 students to observe and translate real-life expressions into art. The lesson fostered a deeper understanding of human anatomy and facial structure and gave confidence to express themselves through art and potentially even communicate their own emotions.

Making a Movable Fish
Class 4 students took giant strides in a papercraft activity when they deftly folded and cut paper to design a mobile fish. The vibrantly colored cut-outs of fish organs they made and affixed, along with finishing touches with sketch pens, made the fish appear attractive and playful.

Ingenious Art
Class 8 students from Isha Vidhya Cuddalore create attractive figurines with coconut stalks, young coconuts, and coconut fiber. They use cotton cord to clothe and decorate the idols before painting them. This artistic activity helps students think practically while fixing and assembling different parts of the model, and instils the importance of reusing natural and waste materials.
