Sport Stars of Isha Vidhya

Sport is a significant part of our education curriculum - we reserve 4-5 weekly training periods from Class 6 onwards in athletics and team sports. Our Physical Education (P.E.) teachers devote extra training hours for students with an aptitude for sports and play a key role in honing their talent.
In this blog, students who have won awards and broken boundaries share how sports shaped them.

“Last year, as the best sports achiever of the year, I carried the torch, lit the flame on sports day at my school, and fulfilled my dream. My P.E. teacher recognized my talent in athletics and encouraged me. I never tire of training, and watching Usain Bolt inspires me. He said, “stop waiting for things to happen; go out and make them happen”, which helps me strive to do well. I triumphed in many sporting events again this year.”
Ashwin won gold in the high jump and the hurdles, and silver in the long jump.

“I became interested in sports after watching my neighbor practice javelin throw. I won my first running race in Class 7 and spurred myself to practice and do well in other sports. This year, I was thrilled to become the champion in the under-14 boys category and add this medal to my trophy collection at home. This collection is not just a memory of my past achievements, but a source of motivation for me to raise the bar.”
Ajay won in running, hurdles, long jump, 4x100 relay, and kho kho at the zonal level.

“I want to play like Harmanpreet Singh, the Indian national hockey team captain. I played my first hockey tournament in 2022, and we won at the zonal and district levels. My first victory made me eager to pursue hockey and win gold for my country. I’m fortunate to have a P.E. teacher who constantly refines my game by correcting my mistakes. I hope to gain admission at a good college through the sports quota to study civil engineering.”
In hockey, Karthikeyan’s team has consistently reached zonal or district levels since 2022, and he won the 3000m this year.

“Sports makes me feel physically strong and capable. When I lost my first kabaddi match, it inspired me to train more in sports, and when I tire during training, I always remind myself that rigorous training is key to victory. Indian kabaddi player Aslam Inamdar’s techniques and skills inspire me, and the joyful thought of playing kabaddi motivates me to wake up for early morning training before class.”
Amutha won in running and kabaddi.

“My brother, a former district-level athlete, inspires me to shine in sports. My first victory pushed me to win in other athletic events, and I am thankful to be studying in a school that emphasizes the importance of sports. I aspire to do very well in sports, make my brother proud of me, and become a source of inspiration for others.”
Darshini won in long jump, running, high jump, 4x100 relay, and kho kho.

“I want to become a national-level player and represent India at the Olympics. When I competed in the high jump for the first time in Class 10, I lost and vowed to win the next time. I admire Javier Sotomayor and want to emulate him in the high jump. I like to train in the morning and prepare for a competition by watching famous sportspersons recount their inspiring success stories. I keep all my medals in the living room - their presence motivates me to earn more of them.”
Vijayseshan won in the high jump, shot put, 4x100 relay, volleyball, and beach volleyball.

“I drew courage and confidence from my first triumph in sports. I first took to taekwondo and then dived into athletic training after watching my school seniors training. Practice is what I like most about sports. Before a competition, I practice rigorously under my P.E. teacher's guidance and prepare myself with the thought that I will either win or lose, but I must compete unconditionally."
Banumathi won in the high jump, taekwondo, and running.
