Why soil, why now
Across Europe, much of the soil is in poor health — worn down by decades of intensive farming, drought and neglect.
When soil struggles, so do we. Harvests become less reliable. Food supplies become more fragile.
The good news is that we can reverse this! This campaign is about making sure Europe’s biggest farming budget actually rewards farmers for doing exactly that.

Two major EU frameworks that need to work together
You may have heard of the Soil Monitoring Law — Europe’s first law dedicated specifically to monitoring soil health.
Alongside it is the Common Agricultural Policy, or “the CAP” — one of the EU’s largest budgets, worth hundreds of billions of euros over the funding period and providing support to farmers every year.
The challenge is that these two frameworks are currently only partly aligned. Europe has a common framework for assessing soil health and a major farming budget that could reward farmers for improving it — but the two are not yet properly connected.
That is the opportunity. As the rules for the CAP 2028–2034 are being negotiated, this is the moment to make the two frameworks work together.
What we're asking for
We’re calling on the EU to reward farmers for real, measurable improvements to soil health — using the Soil Monitoring Law as a common reference so that progress can be recognised across Europe.
Put simply: farmers who improve soil should be recognised and rewarded. The cost of measuring and proving that improvement should never fall on them. Nor should they lose support when drought or flooding affects results beyond their control.

We are sharing signatures in successive waves with national government representatives in Brussels and with the Council of the EU as negotiations on the next CAP advance.
We are also taking them to the Members of the European Parliament shaping the CAP, timed to the points when changes can still be made to the legislative text.
We’ll keep collecting signatures throughout the negotiations so that more voices can be heard as these decisions are made.
