Read about the journey of alumni who have strived and are living their dreams while studying in the healthcare domain – as they pursue their aspirations to become oral maxillofacial surgeons, pediatricians, and more.

“I want to specialize in oral maxillofacial surgery.”
Kowsalya took a break for a year to prepare for NEET (The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) to secure a seat in a medical college and says that it was not easy. But with supportive parents and encouragement from an elder sister who is studying to become an anesthesiologist, she managed to pull it off and is now studying BDS at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Puducherry.
Kowsalya loved the extracurricular activities at her alma mater Isha Vidhya Salem and continues to pursue sports at her college.
“I want to work at GlobalData in pharmacovigilance.”
Vijayakumar was riveted when he saw a relative wearing a stethoscope and decided that he too wanted to work in the medical field. He loves analyzing data and plans to work in the pharmacovigilance space, and thus pursue the two things he likes most - medicine and analyzing, in a reputed multinational company.
Vijayakumar is currently studying B.Pharma at Saastra College of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Nellore, and says his alma mater Isha Vidhya Villupuram is like family and he feels a sense of responsibility to do something for his school.

“After completing my MBBS, I plan to pursue post-graduation in orthopedics.”
Sivesh wants to work at a government hospital and also set up his clinic to help the poor and the needy. He secured admission for MBBS at the ESI Hospital, K.K Nagar, Chennai, in the IP (Insured Person) quota and says getting in was easy because of NEET.
Sivesh scored 98% in Class 10 and achieved a centum in science and went on to score 92% in Class 12. He says learning Yoga at his alma mater, Isha Vidhya Tuticorin, played a vital role in shaping him.

“I want to become a homeopath because I like how this system attends to patients.”
Hemapriya secured admission at Dr. Hahnemann Homoeopathy Medical College & Research Centre, Namakkal, on the basis of her Class 12 score of 85%. It is her dream as well as her parents’ that she become a doctor. When she got first-hand knowledge from a relative who practices homeopathic medicine, she was inspired to follow the same path.
Hemapriya says the English grammar-oriented games at her alma mater Isha Vidhya Salem helped her improve her communication skills and she is even more participative now at her college.
“I took a two-year break for preparation and got an MBBS seat after clearing NEET in my second attempt.”
Pooja Sri is encouraged by her parents to do well academically, especially because they were unable to study due to financial constraints. She is studying in the third year of MBBS at Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College, Salem, and wishes to pursue post-graduation in Pediatrics or Ophthalmology, and thereafter, set up her clinic.
It is only now in retrospect that Pooja Sri realizes how her teachers at her alma mater Isha Vidhya Salem boosted her confidence and spread positivity among the students.

Isha Vidhya constantly strives to nurture the hidden talents of its students, in addition to providing them with quality education. Recently, around 80 Isha Vidhya students and alumni participated in 'Pitch Fest' organized by Moonshot Jr's Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development Program (ELDP). Their ideas ranged from a Gardening app providing consultations, tips and tricks, to apps like 'Uvarpu', addressing mental health needs in the prevailing pandemic situation, and Clean O2, an app to monitor pollution in real time and make the user aware of how long they are spending in polluted areas. All the pitches were very well-received and two of them were runners up in the event.
