Over 200 Isha Volunteers Running to Build a School
For the 3rd year in succession, Isha Mumbai volunteers are running the Mumbai Marathon this time around, to raise funds to build an entire school for Isha Vidhya. The run will be on Sunday, 16th January 2011.
Over 230 Isha volunteers from 15 to 70 years of age will be running 6 km, 21 km or 42 km amongst thousands of other Mumbaites. A number of celebrities are also due to join this run with Isha.
Several of the volunteers have taken a pledge with United Way of Mumbai to raise either Rs.1 lakh, Rs.5 lakh or Rs.10 lakh for Isha Vidhya. Others are trying to get contributions in kind: school buses, cement, electrical fittings, furniture and other requirements to build the school. The awareness and fundraising efforts are happening through Facebook, the Isha Vidhya website, the United Way of Mumbai website and through corporate sponsorships.
A special highlight: Sounds of Isha will be playing for the entire 50,000+ crowd on the Marine Drive to motivate the runners of all categories.
Notably, Isha Foundation has the maximum number of runners by any NGO for this run, and the Maximum number of people who have taken the pledges to raise large funds, following the motto “We run. You build. They Learn.”
