Sakthivel, a retired headmaster from Thenmalai village, is on a mission to restore his ancestral land. With a passion for the environment and a determination to secure a brighter future for generations to come, he embarked on a transformative journey with Isha’s Cauvery Calling.
His three-acre farm, once a bustling hub of agricultural activity, had fallen into disuse. But for Sakthivel, it was more than just land; it was a legacy waiting to be revived. Armed with a strong will and guided by Isha's expertise, he set out to transform his barren fields into a thriving ecosystem.
Isha recommended specific tree saplings based on the unique characteristics of Sakthivel's land. With a mix of sandalwood, red sandal, mahogany, and coconut, Sakthivel planted a thousand saplings, nurturing a vision for a sustainable future. While the wait for these trees to mature might be long, Sakthivel's faith in their potential to benefit his children and the environment is unwavering.
"I don't know whether they will yield income for me, but I believe that they will surely benefit my children in the future," Sakthivel shares. His dedication to the project is evident in his daily care for the saplings, despite the challenges of labor scarcity and initial setbacks with irrigation.
To supplement his long-term goals, Sakthivel introduced pepper cultivation, a crop that would provide a steady income while the trees matured. With meticulous preparation and care, he ensured the pepper saplings thrived.
Sakthivel's journey has been marked by perseverance and a deep connection to the land. His story is an inspiration to many, demonstrating that with passion, patience, and the right support, it is possible to restore and rejuvenate even the most challenging of landscapes.
