Nestled in Valaiyur Village, Tiruchi District, this farm stands as a beacon of environmental dedication. Since its inception in 2019, Periyathambi and his family have transformed 60 acres into a thriving green space, already planting 45,000 of their 100,000-sapling goal. Their innovative approach, notably with sandalwood trees and collaboration with the Cauvery Calling team, showcases a harmonious blend of nature and nurture.
In the heart of Valaiyur Village, Trichy District, lies PTR Farms – a green vision brought to life by Periyathambi and his family. It started in 2019 with a pledge to plant 100,000 saplings on their 60-acre land. Since then, they have planted an astounding 45,000.
Their journey began on Gandhi Jayanti in 2019 with a Tree Plantation Festival. Since that day, Periyathambi and his family have been honing in on what works best. The farm's layout tells that story. The center is dense with trees from their initial 2019 planting. The left side has trees spaced 10 feet apart from their 2020 endeavor. Come 2021, they adopted a wider 12-foot spacing for newer trees.
The farm primarily grows sandalwood, a crop that promises both environmental and financial returns. They have coupled these trees with Agathi and Ponnanganni spinach plants, which offer more immediate income and support the growth of sandalwood trees. This innovative approach has yielded excellent results.
Their partnership with the Cauvery Calling team has been a cornerstone of their success. The team has provided quality saplings and continual guidance over the years.
