Over 40 leading media houses joined Save Soil – Cauvery Calling in New Delhi as the project shared its impact and the humongous scale. The press conference highlighted how restoring soil health through tree-based agriculture can improve farmer livelihoods.

On May 29, 2026, Save Soil – Cauvery Calling hosted a press conference in New Delhi, bringing together more than 40 leading media houses from across the country. The event generated extensive coverage across major print and digital platforms, including PTI, Times of India, News18, Dainik Jagran, Amar Ujala, The Week, The Pioneer and several regional publications.
The session was addressed by Anand Anna, Project Director of Cauvery Calling, along with Valluvan, a UN award-winning farmer from Tamil Nadu whose journey stands as a powerful example of the transformative potential of tree-based agriculture.
Once facing recurring losses from monocrop coconut cultivation, Valluvan adopted tree-based agriculture with guidance from Save Soil – Cauvery Calling. By integrating diverse tree species with crops on his farm, he transformed his land into a thriving tree-based agriculture model and increased his income nearly tenfold while improving the resilience and productivity of his farm. His story illustrates how ecological restoration and farmer prosperity can go hand in hand. Read more about Valluvan's inspiring journey here.
During the conference, the project highlighted its growing impact across the Cauvery basin and shared its vision for the coming year.
Key Highlights
- Save Soil – Cauvery Calling has facilitated the planting of over 13.4 crore trees.
- More than 2.6 lakh farmers have transitioned to tree-based agriculture.
- The project aims to facilitate the planting of 1.2 crore additional trees during 2026–27.
The event helped bring national attention to the urgent need for large-scale adoption of tree-based agriculture as a practical solution for improving farmer livelihoods, restoring soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and increasing climate resilience.
The press conference received coverage in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Gujarati, helping spread awareness of the movement's impact and future goals to audiences across India.
As Save Soil – Cauvery Calling continues to work with farmers, institutions, and communities, stories like Valluvan's demonstrate how restoring soil can also restore livelihoods, creating a sustainable future for both people and the planet.
