Cauvery Calling Newsletter: Apr - Jun 2026

There is a steady, encouraging shift toward tree-based agriculture across the country, and Cauvery Calling’s collective efforts on the ground are helping support this transition. Thanks to your unwavering support, the movement welcomed 3604 new farmers and enabled the planting of nearly 1.7 million living trees this quarter, pushing the total since inception to a monumental 136 million trees. This gradual grassroots progress is finding beautiful resonance at the highest levels of the government. In a landmark policy announcement, the Union Agriculture Minister has officially renamed “agro-forestry” as "tree-based farming." This critical change removes the reference to “forests” and thereby eliminates the long-standing fear of farmers nationwide that they may encounter legal hurdles in cultivating and harvesting their own timber.

Walking the Talk for Cauvery Calling

Human Impact Stories

After raising funds to enable planting of over 350,000 trees, Raj (who is over 60 years old) and Shakrajit took their commitment to Cauvery Calling a step further by walking 150 km along River Cauvery for over seven days to raise awareness. When asked why, Raj simply said:

“Words no longer felt enough, so I just walked. My walk is not complete until Cauvery runs perennially.”

Every single tree that is enabled is one step closer to making Raj and Shakrajit’s dream—and the dream of millions of farmers—a reality.

On his 2-acre farm, Poovendran has integrated timber and fruit trees through tree-based agriculture, creating both a steady annual income of over Rs. 250,000 and long-term value for his family.

"I planted Yellow Teak as timber for my children’s future, while growing guava, papaya, banana, and coconut in between for year-round income. Through Cauvery Calling, I learned how to choose the right intercrops, use every inch of my land, and enrich the soil with fallen biomass. That knowledge transformed my farm."
