Every season tells a story—and this one speaks of soil that thrives, communities that come together, and farmers who dare to reimagine the potential of their land. With expert-led guidance, thousands of farmers are transitioning to tree-based agriculture and Cauvery Calling continues to sow transformation across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

When Soil Speaks: Life Beneath the Trees
Human Impact Stories

Award-winning Nat Geo photographer and field recordist John Stanmeyer visited Cauvery Calling-mentored farms and recorded the sound of microbial life in Valluvan’s farm’s rich soil—while barren land remained silent. A powerful reminder that tree-based agriculture brings soil back to life.

Tree-Based Support, Right on the Farm
Field Stories

This year, 160 on-ground experts from Cauvery Calling visited 32,272 farms—mostly small and marginal—offering free on-farm consultations to the farmers. These visits support farmers at all stages starting from selection of the best tree species to plant based on the farm’s soil, water, and climate to guiding farmers on long-term benefits such as timber harvesting.

A Teacher’s Timber Triumph: ₹15 Lakh from Just One Acre
Human Impact Stories

After retiring from teaching, Tamilanban turned his focus to his two-acre farm in Sivagangai. Guided by Cauvery Calling, he intercropped timber species like mahogany, teak, and rosewood. Six years on, his 100 thriving mahogany trees alone are worth ₹15 lakh (approximately $17500). “The leaves turn to compost, the soil is alive, and water isn’t a worry anymore,” he says. His story shows how even small farms can grow into green gold.
